Even after the better part of a string theory course there is still very little connection to why people are so excited about string theory, and why is it a viable candidate to quantum gravity. In this talk I will construct the reasoning behind the low-energy effective action and how to get the Einstein’s equations out of it. If time allows I will then proceed to discuss one of the consequences of trying to match that theory with our world, T-Duality. Both String Theory and AQFT will be helpful in understanding how to actually derive the results, however, I will not assume said knowledge and will explain (even if only qualitatively) where all comes from.

This talk is part of the Part III Seminars series.
