Abstract
The Linear B writing system was used in the Mycenaean palaces of Late Bronze Age Greece (c.1400-1200 BCE ) by scribes who kept administrative records of goods and people under the control of the palaces. Since none of these records ever refers directly the scribes themselves, the only way we can understand them and their work is indirectly, via the administrative texts they wrote. This talk will explore the evidence offered by spelling variation in texts from the palace of Pylos for the ways in scribes may have been trained to write at this site.
