Every Antarctic field season presents engineering challenges to equipment, instruments and people undertaking field work. BAS ’s Physical Sciences Division Engineering Group has many years of experience in developing and deploying remote autonomous science platforms.

The 2007-2008 Antarctic Summer saw Electronics Engineer Matt Gascoyne make his second trip to the Antarctic continent. Follow along as he explains the challenges faced and engineering solutions found for a number of remote field instruments, working from peninsula to south pole.
