Abstract
Many well-motivated extensions of the Standard Model of particle physics predict a range of light (pseudo-)scalar particles, commonly known as axion-like particles (ALPs) which could be viable candidates for dark matter. Although most efforts to observe ALPs concentrate on astrophysical sources, there is growing interest in laboratory-based searches. The low mass and weak coupling of such particles makes them unsuitable for detection in traditional accelerator-collider experiments, but ideal for production in the strong fields supported in plasma waves. By analysing the ALP -plasma system, we find that currently available plasma accelerators could produce an ALP flux density comparable to that of solar ALPs at Earthβs surface.
