Sheaves on Buildings, Homological Induction and Complexes of Groups
- 👤 Speaker: Mark Butler, University of Birmingham
- 📅 Date & Time: Friday 23 November 2018, 15:00 - 16:00
- 📍 Venue: CMS, MR14
Abstract
The standard construction of the representation theory of S_n is based upon the combinatorics of Young Tableaux. In this talk I will explore a potential alternative construction: a ‘homological induction’ using sheaves of modules on Tits buildings. These methods were developed by Ronan and Smith in the 1980’s. Time permitting, I will also talk a little about the 2-category of complexes of groups and how it may relate to this problem.
Series This talk is part of the Junior Algebra and Number Theory seminar series.
