Abstract
The seminar is intended to present the QuickerSim CFD Toolbox for MATLAB , a MATLAB plug-in for numerically solving fluid flow and heat transfer problems. In the introductory part we discuss the motivation for creating such a toolbox in MATLAB . Some comparisons to CFD software are also drawn. The main part begins with the mathematical foundation of the solver. This includes both the Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) formulation for the incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations as well as the Least-Square Finite Element Method (LS-FEM) for the compressible Euler Equations. Next, we discuss the solver’s models for laminar and turbulent flows and heat transfer with particular attention paid to our current users applications. Several examples of coupling the Toolbox with other MATLAB tools (Optimization Toolbox, automatic mesh generators, PDE Toolbox) are shown as well. Finally, we stress the software’s didactic potential. The seminar concludes with a live demonstration of simulations of the coupled heat-fluid flow problem, flow in a deforming geometry and a compressible flow with a shock wave region where adaptive mesh refinement is employed.
