Abstract
“Science and the public – do they mix, and how to make them gel?”
Dr Joanna Bagniewska is a zoologist specializing in behavioural ecology and invasive species research. She obtained her MSc and doctorate from Oxford Universityโs Zoology Department; she completed her undergraduate degree at Jacobs University Bremen and Rice University in Houston. Thus far she conducted research in five countries and visited over 40.
Joanna is passionate about science outreach, having won FameLab Poland and โIโm a Scientist, get me out of here!โ, given a TEDx talk, organized popular science conferences and even performed at science stand-up comedy events. She has collaborated with Discovery Channel, Focus Magazine, Tygodnik Powszechny, and Gazeta Wyborcza. She currently splits her time between working as a Teaching Fellow at the School of Biological Sciences, University of Reading, and doing communications and public engagement for Oxford University’s Paediatrics Department.
In her spare time Joanna works with the Polish community in the UK, focusing primarily on Polish students and academics.
