Abstract
Kings of the Mountain: Studies of extreme physiology with the Himalayan Sherpas How do Sherpas survive in the thin air of the Himalayas? Dr Andrew Murray is a Lecturer in the Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience who has studied the body’s response to high altitude. His group’s research is concerned with the adaptation of metabolism to the low oxygen levels at high altitude and how these findings can be applied to treat diseases such as heart failure. Come along for a fascinating talk about how people have adapted to survive in some of the toughest conditions on earth. Bateman Auditorium, Caius college, 7pm on Monday 12th November.
