Abstract
Fieldwork can be either a fulfilling learning experience, or a barrier to diversity and integration in geosciences. The barrier represented by fieldwork can sometimes be immediately apparent, for instance for persons with limited mobility. However, poor mental health or mental wellbeing during fieldwork can also be a subtle and often covert barrier to diversity. Importantly, the existence of this barrier can be discovered by the individual only late in their study, when they first need to take a field course. This talk will be based on personal experience and will offer some discussion on best practices.
