User Modelling in HCI

Abstract
User modelling is quiet widely known in human computer interaction, however an exact definition and utility of it is yet debatable. In this talk, I like to present a survey of existing user modelling techniques in human computer interaction. I have classified them into models developed using GOMS , cognitive architectures, formal grammar, combination of GOMS and cognitive architectures and domain-specific AI models. I shall present brief descriptions, examples and characteristics of each modelling technique and finally conclude by raising a few open questions about the use of modelling technique in the software design process.
