Abstract

This lecture will present the project IBERIRON , of study of Iron Technology in the Iberian Peninsula in pre-Roman times, a region known since classical times for its mineral wealth and the quality of its weapons. For this framework, the study of the technology of Iron poses some particular methodological problems, which have led to it being an under researched subject until recent years, especially if compared with other metals technologies. The aim of the project is to approach a broad study of iron objects from the archaeological record, especially weaponry, and determine the characteristics of this technological knowledge in the territory. The results are to be used to approach broader issues regarding how technological knowledge is developed, exchanged and transmitted, as well as address questions about the origins of iron metallurgy in this geographical area.
