Abstract
Current data storage technology is facing barriers to progress in terms of achievable storage densities, power consumption and data rates. E.g. the annual rate of data increase was 16.1 zettabytes/year (1ZB=trillion gigabytes) in 2016 and will rise to 163ZB/year by 2025. I will show that novel data storage concepts based on carbon materials can be used to tackle these issues.
