Abstract
Michael Arlen, one of the most successful popular authors of the 1920s, is now largely forgotten except in histories of the ‘Roaring Twenties’. His full biography has never been written. In setting out to remedy this deficiency, I discovered why.
This talk presents Michael Arlen as a case-study in the challenges and pitfalls of writing literary biography.
