Abstract
We investigate the gravitational wave production of black hole formation from Abelian Higgs cosmic string loop collapse in full general relativity. We compute the waveform and the energy emitted in gravitational waves for different width, radii and string tensions Gμ. We find that the mass normalized GW energy displays a strong dependence on the inverse of the string tension E_GW/M_0 ∝ 1/Gμ, with E_GW/M_0 ∼ O(1)% at the percent level. Conversely, we show that it is only weakly dependent on the initial string width and initial string radius. Using these results, we argue that GW production is dominated by kinematical instead of geometrical considerations. Finally, we construct the full time-domain strain h, parameterized by Gμ, in preparation for the construction of coherent cosmic strings waveform templates required for a match-filtering event search with LIGO /Virgo.
