Abstract
Trinity Hall History Society is delighted to welcome Dr Hanno Balz to speak on ‘Hostile Takeover: A Political History of the Colour Red.’
Hanno Balz is a historian of Modern German and European History and come from Bremen, Germany. He received his PhD at Bremen University and since then have taught at the Universities of Bremen and Lüneburg and has been an Assistant Professor at the Department of History at Johns Hopkins University (2013-2018).
Recently, Dr Balz has been publishing extensively on the history of the “Red Army Faction” West-German militant group and the legal, intellectual, and political reverberations in West German society that came along with challenging the state. More broadly he has worked on European social movements from the 1960s to the 1980s as well as on the history of Nazi rule and the Shoah. His current research is examining the origins of anti-Communism in Germany.
This talk will particularly be of interest to those studying Paper 18 in Part I, or those interested in the History of Political Ideas and German History. The talk will be held in the Lecture Theatre at 18.00, with a wine reception at 17.45 in the Terrace Room. All colleges and interests welcome.
