Abstract
While the Earth has had dramatic climatic perturbations in the past (and present), mechanisms have always prevented the climate getting too extreme and wiping out all life. This talk will explore these mechanisms in the geological past, and how we might use them to mitigate future climate change.
Dr Philip Pogge von Strandmann is a Reader in Isotope Geochemistry, at the Institute of Earth and Planetary Sciences at University College London and Birkbeck, University of London. His research focuses on examining past and present biogeochemical cycles, and how they respond to, and control the climate. He is the 2016 winner of the Max Hey Medal.
