The target established in the Convention on Biological Diversityβs Programme of Work on Protected Areas to establish comprehensive, effectively managed, and ecologically representative national and regional networks of marine protected areas by 2012 has triggered an immense amount of work around the world.
Using information on some sixty initiatives identified through a project undertaken by UNEP -WCMC, in collaboration with the UNEP Regional Seas Programme, this talk will review progress being made, and the challenges being encountered.
