Abstract
Technologies are being developed in the fields of Photonics and Electronics in Departments of the University of Cambridge, (Centre for Advanced Photonics and Electronics (CAPE) and Cavendish Lab) working with partner organisations involved in the Cambridge Integrated Knowledge Centre (CIKC). The challenge is to enable these to emerge into the market by developing value adding products and processes, and then establish a significant and sustainable position in the market. A key ingredient in this challenging, uncertain environment is people. So the rationale behind this project is that if we can improve the capability of people to develop new products and processes from emerging technologies and to get them into the market place, then there is a greater chance that some of these technologies will emerge and make significant economic contributions. A personβs capability is improved through training and development, so by identifying training and development needs and ways of how these needs can be met, we can propose appropriate opportunities to develop this capability.
In this session of the seminar, Judith Shawcross will present the key findings of this project, including the competencies seen as most critical in taking an emerging technology to market and the training and development opportunities needed to fill the gaps.
