Abstract

This seminar brings together Luke Church of the Rainbow group, Robert Watson of the security group, and noted security expert Ben Laurie of Google, to participate in a panel discussion on the interactions between usability and security. A historically neglected area of research, security usability spans issues from password memorability to preventing web site spoofing used for in phishing attacks. What security measures deter security through poor usability? What does a trustworthy interface entail? What new research directions can help resolve long-standing research problems? While the problems are grave, they also represent an opportunity for new research into HCI and security to have a significant impact on society.

Each panelist will present a short position paper relating to their on-going research (3-5 minutes each), followed by Q&A and discussion with the audience.
