Abstract
Abelian gauge theories, rather than just being the boring sector of the standard model, have a versatile application to condensed matter physics, and low dimensional quantum field theories. I will discuss some interesting applications to such systems, as well as obstacles and solutions to Monte Carlo experiments of such systems.
