Abstract
This seminar is linked to TED Countdown, #CountdownToTheFuture.
Scientists are well placed to understand climate change and its implications, but may not appreciate how heavily their daily work is contributing to emissions and pollution. This talk will focus on the climate crisis, its solutions and the role of scientists, both as individuals and in the workplace. It will touch on lab sustainability initiatives, which can significantly improve environmental footprint, without disrupting science, and yield surprisingly large savings, which can be invested back into research. It will also outline the achievements and ongoing plans for the ‘Green Labs’ scheme at the Babraham Institute, and plans to bring ‘Green Impact’ to the campus, for any companies that would like to participate.
