Activated Random Walks (ARW) is an interacting particle system which is believed to be an example of Self-Organised Criticality (SOC), in that the competition between the particles’ activity and inactivity is expected to spontaneously drive the system to a critical state. In this talk I will discuss several notions of criticality and, specialising to ARW on the one-dimensional lattice, I will illustrate how some of them relate to each other. Based on joint work with Lionel Levine (Cornell).
