Abstract
Professor Franz Narberhaus (Ruhr University, Bochum, Germany) will discuss his pioneering work on RNA thermometers, mRNA elements that alter gene expression in response to temperature. Widely utilised by bacteria, but also found in eukaryotes and viruses, these intriguing molecules are particularly important for the timely expression of virulence proteins by pathogens.
