Abstract
Optimization is an essential tool for machine learning and a useful skill for any Computer Scientist to have. Over the decades, many optimization algorithms have been developed each with their own advantages and disadvantages. This talk aims to highlight one specific optimization algorithm, the Nelder-Mead method, and hopes to demonstrate its usefulness as well as reflect on some of the shortcomings of the algorithm.
