The triple challenges of future climate resilience, long-term sustainability and energy efficiency are described as they apply to the existing building stock. Prof. Kelly will then outline measures of scale that might help meet the challenge over the next four decades.

Professor Michael Kelly is the Prince Philip Professor of Technology in the University of Cambridge since 2002, and a Professorial Fellow at Trinity Hall. He is also Chief Scientific Advisor to the Department for Communities and Local Government, and a non-executive director of the Laird Group plc, both since July 2006. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of London, the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society of New Zealand. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and Senior Member of the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineering in the USA .
