Abstract
This year, two long-standing hints of new physics have been corroborated by precision measurements. The Muon g-2 experiment found agreement with the previous Brookhaven measurement and LHCb has reported evidence for violation of lepton flavour universality (LFU). Prime candidates for new-physics explanations of these anomalies are, in both cases, scalar leptoquarks. In generic models, however, these new particles are notorious for leading to excessive lepton flavour violation (LFV) and proton decay. I will present a class of models in which a new U(1) gauge symmetry turns leptoquarks into “muoquarks” by ensuring that they couple only to quarks and second-generation leptons. As a result, the muoquark models are free of LFV and proton decay. It turns out that in a muoquark model that explains the violation of LFU , the U(1) gauge boson can provide the necessary contribution to explain the Muon g-2 measurement. For this type of muoquark models, I will present a classification of the possible U(1) gauge groups and show how their parameter space can be probed by precision measurements.
