Abstract
In the 20th century, trade union strength supported the wages of the workers of the developed world. Over the past twenty or so years unions have collapsed, placing living standards in jeopardy. What explains this, and what might workers, governments and consumers do to counter it? The talk will be a non-technical, but empirically-grounded polemic about the policy options.
