Abstract
To commemorate the centenary of the passing of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, the Cambridge University Bahá’í Society has arranged online talks by eight international speakers. Each speaker will focus on one theme based on the teachings and life of this unique individual and its relevance to our world today. This is the sixth talk in the series.
From “What? A Woman?” to “What a Woman!” The Role of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá in the Advancement of Women
‘Abdu’l-Bahá stated that gender equality was not simply righting historical social injustices against women, but the advancement of women would serve as a key factor in wide-ranging societal changes that would help develop a new civilization.
Wendi Momen is a social activist and advocate, focusing on a cluster of issues that promote social justice: the advancement of women, poverty eradication, health, criminal justice, interfaith harmony, housing, the environment and business ethics. She is chair of Trustees of the National Alliance of Women’s Organisations, a Trustee and secretary of Widows Rights International, and Executive Board member of the UK Civil Society Women’s Alliance. She holds a PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics, where she is a Governor.
