Abstract
To commemorate the centenary of the passing of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, the Cambridge University Bahá’í Society has arranged online talks by eight international speakers. Each speaker will focus on one theme based on the teachings and life of this unique individual and its relevance to our world today. This is the seventh talk in the series.
’Abdu’l-Bahá’s Journey in America
During His eight-month trip to North America, ‘Abdu’l-Bahá gave some 400 public talks and a similar number of private meetings and individual meetings, spoke to as many as 100,000 people, and was covered in hundreds, if not thousands, of newspaper articles.
Robert Stockman has a doctorate (Th.D.) in history of religion in the United States from Harvard University. He is the author of six books, among them The Bahá’í Faith in America: Origins, 1892-1900, volume 1 (Wilmette, Ill.: Bahá’í Publishing Trust, 1986). He has also published various articles about Bahá’í history and theology. He teaches religious studies part time at Indiana University in South Bend, Indiana, particularly courses in Islam, Religion in the United States, World Religions, and Old and New Testament. He is Director of the Wilmette Institute, a non-credit on-line e-learning system specialising in courses on the Bahá’í faith and related topics.
