Abstract
We Journey (Science): by the end of January 2020 the Lancet and the New England Journal of Medicine had published data on the primary symptom presentations of 2019-N-COV (SARS-CoV-2; COVID -19); the surprise that it was driven by asymptomatic transmission; the strategies of containing the spread through testing, contact tracing, quarantine and PPE . We Make & Trade (Commerce): from January 2020 – although humanity shared what Darwin called, “conditions to which they are exposed,” – the reactions across societies were extraordinarily divergent. Some followed the data and established protocols across their nations, others delayed or deflected or denied Science’s recommendations. The result was a vast disparity of mortality rates. We Sing (Art): What we learned is that Science does not lead. There is a distance between what Science determines that we can do and what we actually will do. That distance is bridged by the narratives we build to answer, “Why?”. This talk will discuss how understand this human distance between what we can do and what we will do.
