The progression of severity of variants throughout the pandemic

Abstract
Despite the common belief that viruses evolve to become less virulent as adaptation to its host population progresses, evolutionary theory suggests that this is not generally true. The variants of SARS -CoV-2 act as an interesting case study for this. Here, I will present a series of comparisons of severity between extant diversity andβ (at the time) novel variants, estimated over the pandemic, and put them into this context.
