Abstract
The Teichmuller space is a generalisation of the moduli space of Riemann surfaces, and it can be studied from many different points of view, geometrical and analytical. In the first part of the talk, we will briefly review the geometry of the hyperbolic plane and give an introduction on Fuchsian groups. Then we will describe the Teichmuller space of genus 1 Riemann surfaces by means of marked tori. We will thus generalize this construction to higher genus, and give a description of the Teichmuller space as the space which parametrizes the deformations of the complex structures on a given Riemann surface.
