Abstract
Biocementation technology, enabled by microbially induced calcium carbonate precipitation at particles contacts in granular soils, is developing rapidly as it can induce step changes in soil properties.
Yet, many uncertainties still remain on how mineral microstructure affects the macromechanical response of soils. Further, upscaling from the laboratory to full scale implementation requires overcoming challenges regarding spatio-temporal regulation of bacteria and tight control over the mineral structure. In this seminar, results from element-scale testing, geochemical and mineralogical characterisations, and drop-based processes are used to present advances in these issues.
