Abstract
Gravity currents are present across a wide rage of geophysical contexts, e.g. salinity/temperature driven currents in oceans, powder snow avalanches, and turbidity currents. These currents flow across topographical features which exert a strong control on the currents dynamics. In this work we consider an idealised obstacle that partially blocks the flow, is amenable to mathematical modelling, and is suitable for future laboratory investigation. This talk will focus on the development of a simplified model of the obstacle, and insights about the flow structure yielded by mathematical analysis.
