Abstract
Many researchers have been trying to make a practical version of “Holographic Flat Panel Display”, as it is thought to be a kind of holy grail in the display industry. Recently, we reported a slim-panel holographic video display with a steering backlight unit and a holographic video processor. Which, we believe, is one step closer to the practical holographic FPD . I will talk about the details of it and briefly mention the technology needed towards commercial holographic FPDs.
Biography
He received B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. Degrees in electrical engineering from Seoul National University, Seoul, South Korea in 1993, 1995, and 1999, respectively. In 1999, he joined Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, Suwon, South Korea, and in 2016 he became a Master(VP of technology) of Samsung Electronics. He has been working at Seoul National University as a collaboration professor since March 2022. His research interests are optics and photonics, in particular, novel optical devices and systems with micro/nano structures. His recent main research areas are the next generation 3D displays such as holographic displays and AR/MR glasses.
