Abstract
Join us for a night of poetry readings and music to celebrate 130th anniversary of Marina Tsvetaeva, one of the most important poets in Russian literature of the 20th century.
In the magical setting of the Churchill College Chapel in Cambridge, three actresses of Xameleon Theatre – Maria Blatshtein, Elena Knight, and Vlada Lemeshevskaya – will share their personal readings of Tsvetaeva’s poems with a piano accompaniment by Maria Blatstein. Three women, three destinies, three perceptions of freedom and life through the prism of Marina Tsvetaeva’s works of different periods, including excerpts from “Insomnia” and “The Poem of the End”. Directed by Dmitry Turchaninov.
The performance will be followed by a music concert, where Elena Toponogova and Alice Ruffle (violin) will play a selection from Chopin, Rachmaninov, Medtner and Stravinsky.
