Abstract
Worldwide, typhoid infects 11â20 million people each year. The disease is endemic in South Asia. Increasing antimicrobial resistance is a challenge. In Pakistan, the first extensively drug-resistant (XDR) typhoid was reported in 2016 in an outbreak in Hyderabad. The investigation of this outbreak and subsequent efforts lead to the introduction of the typhoid vaccine in Expanded Program for Immunization (EPI) of Pakistan. Hence Pakistan became the first country to introduce the typhoid conjugate vaccine in children through EPI .
