Theory and the Creation of Structures; Using the concepts of Airy, Maxwell, Michell, Heyman, Calladine, Pellegrino, Guest and McRobie to create structures
- đ¤ Speaker: Bill Baker, SOM & University of Cambridge
- đ Date & Time: Friday 04 November 2022, 15:00 - 16:00
- đ Venue: CivEng Seminar Room (1-33) (Civil Engineering Building)
Abstract
Fundamental concepts such as energy theorems, the geometry of equilibrium, mechanisms & states of self-stress and engineering mechanics are an excellent basis for creating efficient and elegant structural systems. The talk will provide an overview of how some of the concepts of Airy, Maxwell, Michell, Calladine, Pellegrino, Guest and McRobie (along with help from Rankine) provide insights into the creation of structures
Series This talk is part of the Engineering Department Structures Research Seminars series.
