- 👤 Speaker: Sandra Petrus-Reurer

Abstract
The concept of cell therapy refers to placing new and healthy cells into the human body to modulate function of the patient’s cells to halt and reverse disease, restore damaged organs and, ultimately, cure many life-threating conditions (e.g. diabetis, retinal disease, stroke, spinal cord injury, liver disease, parkinson’s disease). In this talk I will explain the potential of cell therapy to regenerate tissues and treat disease, the source of cells that can be used, and I will give examples of the basic and preclinical research behind the cell therapies I worked on for retinal and liver disesase. Finally, I will discuss the challenges of the technology that are left for the future.
