Abstract
The class of O’Shea-Zames-Falb multipliers provides the best-known results for the absolute stability of the feedback interconnection between a Linear Time-Invariant (LTI) system and any slope-restricted nonlinearity. For discrete-time systems, we know that they do fully characterise the class of slope-restricted nonlinearities, hence it is natural to state the following conjecture: The O’Shea-Zames-Falb multipliers are necessary and sufficient for absolute stability. This seminar will provide a brief overview of absolute stability. Then we will cover recent results on the construction of destabilising nonlinearities when we can discard the existence of an O’Shea-Zames-Falb multiplier via duality results as well as the latest development showing the current bottlenecks to prove or disprove this conjecture.
The seminar will be held in the JDB Seminar Room, Department of Engineering, and online (zoom): https://us06web.zoom.us/j/87986687566?pwd=MGJScmMwd2lwT0tVMHNmWmxSa05XZz09
