Abstract
On a closed negatively curved surface, Margulis gave the asymptotic growth of the number of closed geodesics of bounded length, when the bound goes to infinity. A natural question is whether one can obtain similar asymptotic results for geodesics satisfying some topological or geometric constraints. After a short state of the art on the question, I will present results on the growth of closed geodesics for which certain geometric intersection numbers (with a family of simple curves) are prescribed.
