Abstract
This talk discusses the upscaling of the wave equation in permeable materials with active inner sources. The two-scale method of homogenisation is used to establish the macroscopic description of wavepropagation in, and sound emission by, multiscale metamaterials and porous media featuring differenttypes of active inner sources. The investigated types of sources correspond to forcing terms in theequations of conservation of momentum, mass, and energy. This talk pays particular attention to howinner sources and different diffusion processes can be engineered to control acoustic waves, provides asynthetic view of the role of inner sources on wave propagation in and emission of sound by permeablemedia, and discusses possible ways of tackling the challenging problem of modelling the propagationand emission of high-frequency acoustic waves in the investigated classes of materials.
