New fields in the strong gravity regime

Abstract
Gravitational wave signals from merging compact objects provide an opportunity to probe fundamental physics in strong gravity regimes. One potential target is to identify new field content, which may appear in simple models for dark matter and/or modifications to General Relativity at higher curvature scales. In this talk I will discuss recent progress in modelling such effects in the strong, dynamical gravity regime of binary black hole mergers using numerical techniques. In particular, I will contrast the different challenges faced when the fields represent dark matter, versus the case of modified gravity.
