Introducing a new model, Bursting Cortico-Cortical Networks (BurstCCN), that is capable of backpropagation-like learning using biologically plausible mechanisms. Importantly, unlike previous work, the BurstCCN can learn complex tasks with high accuracy without requiring an implausible two-phase learning process.
