Abstract
We invite you to attend a conference titled: The Role of Academia in Misinformation. The aim of the conference is to bring all the multidisciplinary expertise existing in Cambridge re. Misinformation and Pseudoscience together to emphasise the range of inspiring research and outreach efforts happening within Cambridge. From health to climate change, from data science and technology to the psychological and social underpinnings of what might make people susceptible to bias and misinformation. In addition, and most importantly perhaps, the conference will address questions such as: What can we, as the Cambridge academic community, do to enhance valuable knowledge exchange between various research and outreach efforts occurring across the university in a more established manner? How can we best equip researchers with the tools to contribute to the goal of opposing this problem within their everyday research? Are there ways in which the culture of academia may be hindering the goal of addressing this issue, and how could we motivate or create necessary critical introspection to identify these?
Plenary speakers include Sir. Prof. David Spiegelhalter, Prof. Sander van der Linden, Prof. Hasok Chang, Prof. Giles Yeo, Dr. Roland Roberts and Prof. Andreas Vlachos.
