Abstract

The presentation will look at the developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina after the end of the 1992–1995 war. The Dayton Peace Agreement that concluded the war set up a strong international administration of Bosnia and Herzegovina that is able to directly intervene in Bosnian politics by dismissing elected politicians and passing legislation. The presentation will discuss how this authority has been used and how major powers have intervened in the post-war Bosnia and Herzegovina. It will also discuss how disagreements between US, EU countries and Russia have lead to problems with the transition from a semi-protectorate to a sovereign country and whether there might be a potential for the use of similar models in other post-conflict situations.
