Debugging HPC applications

Abstract
In this presentation I will cover an introduction to gdb (GNU’s general purpose debugger) and how to use it to search for bugs in your code. You might think why HPC applications? Sure, gdb can be used on pretty much any binary but I have a focus on High-Performance Computing and scientific software. Typically HPC applications run on supercomputers where local access or X-forwarding may not be possible or practical—this is where gdb really shines. I will also cover how to debug parallel applications that are built on the MPI programming model and my efforts to make this easier / less painful.
