Abstract

On Monday 11 March, the Cambridge Military History Working Group will meet for a seminar in the Engelsberg Room (2nd floor of the Centre for Geopolitics, Fitzwilliam House) at 4pm.

Dr Daniel Cowling, a historian from the National Army Museum, will give a paper entitled ’Discrediting the good name of Britain’: the British occupation of Germany, 1945-49, and perceptions of national decline and Cherish Watton (University of Cambridge) will speak on ’War writing with scissors: scrapbooking during the two world wars’.

Besides the two 20-minute papers, the event will include a Q&A period and a reception with wine and non-alcoholic alternatives.

The Military History Working Group brings together Cambridge-based scholars working on the history of war and the military to discuss each other’s work and approaches. Convened by Eamonn O’Keeffe, the National Army Museum Junior Research Fellow at Queens’ College, it is ecumenical in terms of chronology, discipline, and scope.
