Abstract
In particle physics, Monte Carlo event generators embody detailed numerical models of processes which are often too complex to study by any other means. Based on my work with the PYTHIA event generator, I will give an overview of the current physical modelling and likely future theory developments for a selection of key physical processes and measurements at the LHC . The specific examples will serve to anchor the discussion in ongoing experimental studies, but most of the aspects I touch on will be general, with broad implications for related methodologies and physical processes both within and beyond the Standard Model.
