Abstract
Dr. Matus Rynak, a Veni fellow shared between Delft University of Technology and Leiden Observatory (and SRON ), will be delivering the second talk of our Astro Career Talk Series on Thursday, 4th April from 3:30-4:30 PM. (If you want to know more about Veni fellowship, feel free to check the Dutch Research Council website https://www.nwo.nl/en/calls/nwo-talent-programme)
His short bio:
I am an observational astronomer trying to understand the physical conditions in galaxies in the early Universe. My research spans galaxy evolution, data processing, and cutting-edge instrumentation.
- originally from Slovakia
- could not decide between history and physics/astronomy, ultimately deciding on the latter
- Undergraduate (MPhys) studies at St Andrews (2009 – 2013)
- PhD: MPA Garching with S. White and S. Vegetti (2013 – 2017), working on strong gravitational lensing, high-resolution radio interferometry
- Postdocs: Leiden 2017 – 2020, working with Jacqueline Hodge. High-resolution studies of gas and dust in high-redshift galaxies, mostly with ALMA
- Senior postdoc: 2020 – now, shared between Delft University of Technology and Leiden Observatory (and SRON :)
- Fellowships: IMPRS Garching PhD scholarship (2013), Dutch Research Council Veni fellowship (2020), Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship (2020, declined)
